A South African national (41) is scheduled to appear in the Noordoewer Periodic Court on Tuesday after he was reportedly found with cannabis worth over N$200 000.
Namibian Police regional crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, in a crime report on Sunday, indicated that the man was arrested on Sunday at around 07h00 at the Noordoewer border post.
It is alleged that the suspect had hidden his suitcase somewhere before he went to stamp his passport at the entry point and went back to collect it after he finished. He was, however, observed by Namibia Revenue Agency (Namra) officials, who called him in for a search.
“His bag was searched by Namra officials, who discovered the cannabis.”
The bag contained cannabis (skunk) weighing 2.1kg and valued at N$105 250 and cannabis (majat) weighing 10.9kg to the value of N$109 100.
The suspect was charged with one count of dealing in cannabis.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
