Man arrested for pension fraud

A 63-year-old man from a village near Grootfontein is alleged to have defrauded Government of more than N$30 000 in pension money in the last nine years.

Daniel Shikongo is currently in Police custody, where he is awaiting psychological evaluation after he claimed to be mentally unstable.It is understood that Shikongo was authorised to collect the pension of fellow Otjituo village resident Antonia Shivandya.When Shivandya died in the year 2000, Shikongo allegedly failed to inform the authorities and continued collecting the pension.He was arrested on Saturday after the Police were tipped off.Shikongo pleaded guilty when he appeared in court on Tuesday, but was referred for psychological observation after he told the court he had mental problems.
