NAMIBIA has been touted as the likely filming destination for the fourth instalment for the well known Mad Max franchise, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.
The fourth Mad Max film has been plagued by delays, the first being the 2003 Iraq War, which derailed production plans originally set for Namibia. The project was officially revived in 2009, with production location reported to have been supplied by New South Wales in Australia.Production of the feature film was set to commence last year, however unseasonal weather in Broken Hill, has turned the desert landscape which is ideal for the post-apocalyptic world of Max into lush greenery.According to internet reports Namibia may become the destination.Mad Max: Fury Road is set to star Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. However, the two have apparently moved on to other projects due to the delays. Mel Gibson starred as the original Max Rockatansky in all three of the prior films.The Mad Max franchise is a series of futuristic films and tells a story of social breakdown, murder and vengeance. The first Mad Max movie was directed by George Miller and was released in 1979. The two sequels, known as as ‘Mad Max 2’ and ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’ were released in 1981 and 1985 respectively.
