THE father of 16-year-old Peter Ntsamba, who drowned in the sea at the Luderitz Waterfront on Friday, feels his son could have been rescued if life-savers were deployed at the Waterfront.
Nathanael Ntsamba said friends of his son, who were swimming with him, dashed to the security guards for assistance after they realised their friend was in danger.
‘The boys told me that the guards only stared at the sea instead of preventing my son from drowning,’ Ntsamba charged.
‘The town’s residents must now unite to demand the deployment of life-savers at the waterfront to prevent further losses of life,’ said Ntsamba.
The Namibian was unable to establish whether the security guards can swim.
Divers attached to Special Field Force unit recovered the teenager’s body at noon on Saturday.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
Ntsamba thanked the divers for recovering his son’s body.
‘The divers really acted swiftly,’ he said.
Ntsamba said his son, who was a Grade 11 pupil at the Nautilus High School, would be laid to rest on Saturday.
