RAINFALL will decline from this week and only a few isolated showers are expected in the central highlands and in the north-east of Namibia from today until Thursday, says the Weather Bureau.
Weather forecaster Simon Dirkse said yesterday the rain was now moving east towards Botswana, Zambia and to the western part of Zimbabwe. “From Friday onwards, not much is expected really,” Dirkse told The Namibian.However, he said significant showers had been received throughout the country.He said the rains that fell from Friday to Saturday morning had been quite heavy with a maximum of 61,4 millimetres measured at Citrusdal, a farm in the Outjo area.Otjimbingwe and Goedemoed received 50 mm.Okahandja measured 32 mm; Mariental 30 mm; Omaruru 25 mm; and Katutura 18 mm.Dirkse said rainfall prospects in the Caprivi and Omaheke Regions looked promising but that the Kavango would not receive much in the way of showers.Rainfall figures measured yesterday morning indicated that Katima Mulilo received 29 mm, while 26,6 mm fell at Gobabis in Omaheke.Meanwhile, according to NamWater’s latest dam bulletin, Windhoek’s main supply dam, the Von Bach Dam, is at 45,8 per cent of capacity.Last season the dam’s level stood at only 33,8 per cent.”From Friday onwards, not much is expected really,” Dirkse told The Namibian.
