THE Namibia United States Alumni Association (NUSAA), together with the King’s Daughters Organisation, has launched a remedial English language programme called ‘English Beyond Borders’.
About 50 students have attended the English classes every Saturday for the past two months. The classes will continue until the end of December and are taught by Joseph Mukoroli, an English lecturer at Unam.Mukoroli is a former Fulbright student and this is his way of giving back to the community.’This course is open to anyone who wants to learn English and every Saturday more people come to the Disability Resource Centre here in Okuryangava to learn,’ said Mukoroli.Daniel Frederiks said that he knew basic English, but never learned the language in school.’I decided to come here to learn as it is the official language of the country and sometimes I cannot express myself properly. This is helping me to learn the language and I grabbed this opportunity with both hands,’ he said. Delmarine Bock said that she learned English at school, but wanted to do this course as she wanted to improve her proficiency.
