League on as Warriors face Libya

PREMIERSHIP action continues this weekend, while the Brave Warriors are faced with a monumental task away from home as they meet Libya in an African Nations Cup qualifier in Tripoli on Saturday.

The Warriors left the country quietly last week and were expected to have their final preparations in South Africa this week, before jetting out to Libya for what could be a tough match. With the Warriors away, four local premiership sides will also be watching action from the sidelines, as most have players in the national side.Civics, Eleven Arrows, Blue Waters and Friends will not be taking the field this weekend, but that will not take away anything from tantalising encounters that are in store, starting tonight.Ramblers, who are in second spot, will face Orlando Pirates at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight, before Tigers meet old rivals Black Africa at the same venue. If Ramblers win their match tonight, they will only be three points behind log leaders Civics, who are currently on 33, while Oshakati City can just be a point away from the two-time defending champions provided they win both their weekend matches.City are also on 26 points, but in third spot and are currently enjoying their best spell in many years, as they have so far won eight of their 15 matches played.Pirates will hope to effectively move away from the bottom half of the table as they found themselves on unfamiliar ground by occupying the last spot before last weekend’s matches. The Buccaneers are facing a tall order against Ramblers, who – despite coming from two consecutive draws – will hope to up their game after they entered into a potentially rewarding sponsorship deal with Kingsley last week. The Ramblers management is still busy finalising the details of the new deal and the sponsors have set a condition that they must win both the league title and the MTC NFA Cup before announcing the amount they would put forth for the club.African Stars, who held Ramblers to a 0-all draw last weekend, go up against Golden Bees and their chances of thumping the Outjo side will not be easy, despite their home-ground advantage.Stars have a reliable defence and a consistent midfield, but their strikers are wanting and the goal drought is currently leaving them in sixth spot in the league with 20 points from their 15 matches.Stars strikers have scored 20 goals in total, five less than Eleven Arrows who are two places below them.Stars will be put to the test by a visiting Oshakati City side on Sunday, while SKW will have a chance to record a win against Golden Bees on the same day.SKW, now in seventh spot on the league table, have won five, lost five and drew five of their 15 matches, a record which needs to be corrected before the league goes to the wire where two teams would be facing relegation.
