Larsson set for Man Utd debut

MANCHESTER United’s new signing Henrik Larsson looks set to make his debut shortly but United chief executive David Gill said there were no major plans to recruit further in the winter transfer market.

Larsson could make his debut in the FA Cup against Aston Villa on Sunday and his arrival has softened the blow of fellow striker Louis Saha’s absence with a groin injury. However, Gill said United would continue their custom of making their biggest signings in the summer.”The money is there but traditionally we do most of our big spending in the summer and I think that will continue.”Things may change. If there’s an area in which we want to do something then we’ll do it.But at the moment we don’t plan to do a great deal.”We’ve already brought in Henrik Larsson, while a number of the players who have been out on loan are also back at the club.”The 35-year-old Larsson, formerly of Celtic and Barcelona and in the twilight of his career, has been drafted in from January 1 to March 12 on loan from Swedish club Helsingborg as a short-term replacement.Meanwhile, Gill has not ruled out a move for England international Owen Hargreaves. The Bayern Munich midfielder was first linked with a switch to Old Trafford last summer when he publicly stated his desire to join the club.Gill tried to broker a deal but Hargreaves has remained with the Bundesliga giants, who have expressed their desire to hang on to the player.”I think we all know the area in which we want to strengthen,” Gill told Manchester United Radio, apparently in reference to Hargreaves.”But I’m not going to comment on that.”SuperSportHowever, Gill said United would continue their custom of making their biggest signings in the summer.”The money is there but traditionally we do most of our big spending in the summer and I think that will continue.”Things may change. The Bayern Munich midfielder was first linked with a switch to Old Trafford last summer when he publicly stated his desire to join the club.Gill tried to broker a deal but Hargreaves has remained with the Bundesliga giants, who have expressed their desire to hang on to the player.”I think we all know the area in which we want to strengthen,” Gill told Manchester United Radio, apparently in reference to Hargreaves.”But I’m not going to comment on that.”SuperSport
