Kudos For Keetmans Cops

Kudos For Keetmans Cops

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks in the professional manner in which a case of theft was handled by the Keetmanshoop Police and in particular Detective Constable Ganaseb.

On 11 January 2008 we were travelling back to South Africa after spending a month touring Botswana and Namibia. On the very last day we decided to go into Keetmanshoop for some last minute shopping. We parked our car just off the main street in front of the Post Office. We were busy in town for about 20 minutes and on our return found that the back window of our Land Rover was open and realized that the camera, lenses, memory cards etc.were stolen.Needless to say we were distraught as the camera bag contained all the photographs we had taken on our month-long holiday. My fiancé immediately went to the police station to report it and started asking questions around the market, but sadly no one saw anything. Then while I was sitting in the car a young boy with the name of Nelson came up to me and asked what was wrong, when I explained that we had just been robbed, he immediately offered to see if he could find out anything. When my fiancé came back Nelson was joined by Deon and Sydney who helped him in his search. To cut a very long story short of running around and going back and forth, we finally had to accept that our memories and my camera were gone.We went across to the Police station where finger prints were taken from the car and a very thorough statement taken by the police. We then started the sad journey home.Once back in South Africa we followed up with the police on Monday 14 January.I spoke to Sergeant Swartbooi who informed me that some goods were recovered that morning, I could not believe it and immediately sent proof of the serial numbers of my items to him, so that they could compare this information with the goods found. The next morning I called again and spoke to Detective Constable Ganaseb, and he confirmed that the recovered items were indeed mine.Imagine my joy, when I found out that everything was there.(Except for the camera bag) The next step would be to ensure that the camera and other bits arrived safely back in South Africa.I discussed this with Detective Constable Ganaseb and together we decided that a courier company would be the best option. He very graciously offered to pack the items securely in a box and take it across to the courier company himself! My camera and everything that was in the bag arrived exactly one week later! All safe and sound and very securely packed and sealed! I am still astounded by the kindness, professionalism and dedication of the Detective, going above and beyond the call of duty, and the rest of the team that were involved, these are men that still take pride in the service that they provide to the community.Namibia you can be proud to have such a team in Keetmanshoop, and Keetmanshoop can be proud of Detective Constable Ganaseb! Thank you once again to everyone who helped, we are sincerely grateful.Lindy Lourens & Francois Visagie Cape Town, South AfricaOn the very last day we decided to go into Keetmanshoop for some last minute shopping.
