VILLAIN-turned-hero of Australian tennis Jelena Dokic is a last-minute withdrawal from next week’s Soweto Open women’s event at the Arthur Ashe Tennis complex – leaving Michaella Krajicek, sister of former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek, as the main drawcard.
Great Britain’s 127th-ranked Katie O’Brien is the highest-ranked women among the 24 direct entries released on Tuesday for the R8-million sponsored tournament that boats R1-million in prize money, but The Netherlands’ Krajicek, a former world number 30 who has been featured in Glamour magazine, could be the player to watch.
The 20-year-old from Almere in The Netherlands, reached a career high of 30th last year, but her progress was marred by successive wrist and knee injuries.
