Killing The Golden Goose

Killing The Golden Goose

I RESPOND to the articles on 05.08.2005 ’18 farms set to be expropriated’ and ‘Embassies must take lead in securing trade’ This is how I feel about expropriating farms that have a valuable share in our export business.

Congratulations, Minister Ekandjo, on the successful decision of the expropriation of Ongombo West Flower farm. You have now successfully foiled the plans of the owner, Ms Hilde Wiese, for increasing the flower exports by 500%.The people Government intends to put onto the 4,007 hectare land – who are they? Are they botanists, florists, horticulturalist etc? Do they know anything about the European flower market? Or are they members of Ministers’ extended families and do they own enough goats to eat 150 000 export-quality flowers? Good luck with the expropriation of Okurusu farm! Is Government going to move people onto this farm who will then mine the fluorspar and export that to the overseas markets? Is this master plan of yours designed to encourage foreign investors and boost exports for our much-needed foreign currency, as the Minister of Trade and Industry requests from the Embassies? Tell me, Minister Ekandjo, did you do the same ‘how to mess up the economy’ course that President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe did? Boy oh boy, you guys sure know how to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs!
