//Kharas governor Aletha Frederick has called on gender equality, poverty eradication and social welfare employees to continue serving the community with passion and dedication while creating a conducive environment where all inhabitants in the region can thrive.
Frederick made the call at the official opening of the year for the division on Friday, saying the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare holds the key to hope for the most vulnerable and destitute in communities.
She added that the work carried out by the ministry is vital, not only for the advancement of gender equality but also for the overall social welfare of the region.
“Your commitment to programmes such as social grants, the economic empowerment programme for women, and the community development projects has made a significant impact on countless lives. These initiatives have empowered individuals and families, fostered resilience and promoted sustainable development within our communities,” said Frederick.
The governor urged the employees to address the challenges faced by the elderly, destitute women, girls, and young men as well as children who find themselves wandering the streets begging in front of shops, particularly at Keetmanshoop.
“These issues require our immediate attention and collective action. We must pull together in a collaborative spirit, focusing on finding solutions for the most vulnerable members of our society. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind as we strive towards a more equitable future for all residents of the region,” she added.
The event doubled as a farewell for Gaudentia Kröhne who resigned this month as she is heading to the August House in March this year. Kröhne is eleventh on the Swapo parliamentary list, and has worked at the ministry since 2010.
In her farewell remarks to Kröhne, the governor said: “As you transition into this national leadership role, I congratulate you on this well-deserved elevation, I am confident you will represent our region with honor and dignity while continuing to enhance the works of this ministry at a national level.”
Kröhne urged her former colleagues to continue providing efficient and compassionate services to the community and always treat them with respect and kindness.
