THE Keetmanshoop Town Council yesterday at last reached consensus on the election of its management committee.
The town had been left leaderless for the past two weeks. Last week, Magistrate Illeni Gebhardt had to postpone the election of office bearers after it reached a stalemate. Before the postponement, incumbent Mayor Simon Petrus Tiboth was re-elected after being nominated by Moses Titus (DTA).He will be deputised by Peter Visser (RP), who was nominated by Johannes Coleman (CoD).Coleman and Titus were elected as members of the management committee. The remaining three councillors – Fiinna Elago (Swapo), Basil Brown (Swapo) and Arnold Losper (CoD) – initially all declined to serve as third member of the management committee, apparently in protest against the re-election of Tiboth.Brown yesterday accepted the last position on the management committee. However, the management council members then failed to elect a chairperson and deputy chairperson.”Disagreement among the Keetmanshoop town councillors has become a tradition,” Magistrate Illeni remarked. She then postponed the election of a chairperson and deputy chairperson for an indefinite period.Last week, Magistrate Illeni Gebhardt had to postpone the election of office bearers after it reached a stalemate. She then postponed the election of a chairperson and deputy chairperson for an indefinite period.
