THE Namibia Dairies depot at Keetmanshoop will be closed at the end of September.
Namibia Dairies managing director Hubertus Hamm said the closure is part of the company’s objective to streamline operations and save costs.Hamm said the company plans to relocate all affected employees to the company’s other outlets. ‘We have the intention to relocate all affected employees, thus retrenchment packages have not been discussed in detail. We first attempt to accommodate all the employees in our operations around the country,’ he said. Four of the 14 employees at the depot have opted to accept voluntary retrenchment packages. ‘To date four employees have indicated that they are deeply rooted in Keetmanshoop and it would not be an option for them to move. The company still needs to engage in discussions with the affected employees and the union in terms of packages,’ he said. The company’s customers in the South will now be served from the company’s central distribution centre in Windhoek. ‘All sales staff will continue to be located in the various towns and sales operations will continue as in the past,’ Hamm added. luqman@namibian.com.na
