Keetmans council infighting resurfaces

CRACKS began to appear in the Keetmanshoop town council opposition alliance during a management committee meeting held on Monday.

The management committee was to discuss whether to reinstate the council’s suspended CEO, Paul Vleermuis, as agreed at an earlier caucus meeting by the opposition alliance which garnered four council seats in the November election compared to the ruling party’s three. But management committee chairman Willem Kotze (RDP) apparently ignored demands by Mathilda Isaak (RDP) and Magret Snewe (DPN) to table the reinstatement motion.Instead, a source indicated, Kotze pressed ahead with other motions, and recommended them to the full council for final approval without any of them being seconded by his fellow management committee members, Isaak and Snewe. Kotze yesterday refused to comment. Vleermuis is embroiled in a legal battle with the council over his suspension in August.
