TWO Keetmanshoop residents were freed from Police custody after local businessman Roy Oosthuizen had withdrawn extortion charges against them on Friday.
Harold Bloedooght (39) and Johan Ses (26) were arrested last Wednesday for allegedly trying to extort N$30 000 from Oosthuizen. One of them allegedly called Oosthuizen, pretending to be an illegitimate son of his and threatening to tell his wife and children unless he paid up. In a Police statement, Oosthuizen said that one of the extortionists posed as a certain Sergeant Shivute and told him that there was an arrest warrant out for him.In a letter seen by The Namibian, the suspects promised that they would not bother Oosthuizen again after receiving the money. Upon their arrest N$8 300 was recovered from Ses, while the Police later confiscated a stove, fridge and five corrugated iron sheets valued at N$3 824 that Bloedooght had allegedly bought with the money extorted from Oosthuizen. luqman@namibian.com.na
