THE Bankers Association of Namibia has appointed lawyer Brian Katjaerua as its new chief executive officer, until July 2025.
The five-year contract started at the beginning of this month, with Katjaerua – the current Roads Authority board of directors chairman – saying he will do his best for the association during this time of uncertainty.
Before his appointment, he was a consultant at Katjaerua Legal Practitioners.
The association’s board chairperson, and president Ester Kali congratulated Katjaerua on his appointment, stating that the board is looking forward to the association and the broader banking industry being the beneficiary of his proven track record and various accolades.
Katjaerua’s banking experience includes time at FirstRand Namibia as group legal adviser, and heading the First National Bank of Namibia home loans department.
He holds a master of business administration, and law degrees from the University of Stellenbosch, an LLM in International Trade from the University of Namibia, and is an admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia.
Before joining FNB in 2006, Katjaerua was a senior financial analyst at the Bank of Namibia.
Between 2012 and 2015, he was the acting principal officer at Outsurance Namibia and also served as FNB Retirement Fund deputy chair.
Katjaerua says he is looking forward to this new chapter and assured the public that it is only in the best interest of the association’s mandate that he will lead and guide its business objectives.
