Katiti a candidate for NamPort post

FORMER Walvis Bay CEO Augustinus Katiti is one of a handful of potential candidates to be interviewed from tomorrow for the post of NamPort CEO.

The interviews will apparently be done in Windhoek by the port authority’s Board of Directors.
NamPort’s CEO post became vacant after Sebby Kankondi resigned last year to join the Bidvest Group.
The Namibian contacted Katiti yesterday to ask if the report was true, and all he was prepared to say was that he ‘will not be interviewed for the post on Thursday [tomorrow]’. Asked whether he had applied for the post, Katiti would not comment.
‘What I want to say is that even if I applied for CEO at NamPort, or any other position at any other place, it is a private matter, and not something I want to discuss with the papers, as I’m sure you will understand,’ Katiti said.
The Chairman of NamPort’s Board of Directors, Mike van den Meer, confirmed Katiti’s application for the post, and said Katiti will be interviewed.
‘I cannot say more, as we’re still processing the applications,’ he said.
According to him, there are notable names on the list of applicants for the post, but he would not divulge their names. Katiti is currently in a High Court battle over the N$2,78 million golden handshake the Walvis Bay Municipality gave him after his resignation last year. The case is set to resume in June.
The applicants in the case, the Walvis Bay Residents’ Association (WBRA) and Walvis Bay resident Gerhard Rössler, are challenging the Walvis Bay Town Council’s decision to approve the payout to Katiti after his resignation as CEO of the municipality.
Katiti is also suing The Namibian for N$500 000 for alleged damage to his character.
It stems from an article published in the newspaper’s last edition of 2007 with the heading ‘Katiti charged with theft’.
