THE first female Mayor of Karibib, Melanie Ndjago, was re-elected at a special Council meeting on Wednesday night.

Ndjago, who became Mayor last year, said in her acceptance speech that her re-election was a sign that women were ready to take up their rightful position as leaders in the community. “I would like to give you my assurance of positive co-operation in the execution of my duties”.She added that the unfailing support and co-operation of her councillors to uplift, promote and care for the town were vital goals.There were policies and procedures to be followed.By adhering to these, the standard of work would improve and the overall commitment and service to the public enhanced”.The Mayor invited the community to attend Council sessions as well as public meetings where they could express their views and bring their grievances to the attention of the Council.She called for tolerance of diverse views in a multi-cultural community.”We must build a culture of unity in Karibib in order to create opportunities for development and self-empowerment in our town”.* The rest of the elected Karibib Council the Management Committee: Aron Ilonga (Deputy Chairperson of the Management Committee), Norman Shikulo, Erich Skini and Alma Nguherimo.Skini is a UDF councillor and Nguherimo a DTA member.The remainder are Swapo members.”I would like to give you my assurance of positive co-operation in the execution of my duties”.
