THE new Police station inaugurated at Kapps Farm on Friday is a dream come true for the local community, which made significant contributions to see the project implemented.
Brian Black, chairman of the Kapps Farm Community Committee, was in tears at the ceremony, saying crimes used to be reported to the Police in Windhoek and it took ages for them to get to the crime scene. “Two years ago community members grew weary of crime at Kapps Farm and we decided to take matters in our own hands towards enforcing the law lawfully. Today we are witnessing what was once an idea, all thanks to our people who not only donated land, money and vehicles but also hard work to make Kapps Farm a no-crime zone,” said Black.Deputy Minister of Safety and Security Erastus Uutoni said the Police station is a symbol of good co-operation between the community and the Police – “a clear indication of your interest in the safety and security of Namibia”.The construction of the Police station cost N$300 000, most of which was contributed by the community in cash, land, pledges and vehicles.Kapps Farm is the first of three community-based crime prevention projects in Namibia. Rosh Pinah and Walvis Bay residents are also currently building Police stations of their own to combat crime in their areas.
