Kamatuka hits back against suspension

NATHANAEL Kamatuka, the suspended Otjohorongo Sport and Culture Association president, has described his suspension as a joke, insisting that he is still the head of the body.

Kamatuka was asked to step down after he allegedly took unilateral decisions without consulting his committee members. At the moment Tukumbavi Kahuure is acting in his position, but Kamatuka told The Namibian Sport that he was the legitimate leader because he was elected to that post.”The suspension they claim is just a joke. How can they suspend me? Firstly they failed to follow the proper procedures of doing that by not checking what the body’s constitution says. They don’t know their constitution to start with and I don’t see any point why I should relinquish the position if I was duly elected,” he said.Kamatuka said Kavetutjine Ratjama and Daniel Hipose, who were the masterminds behind his suspension, were not part of OSCA as they were already fired from the body.Ratjama served as the organiser, while Hipose was a first additional member.Kamatuka said Ratjama was expelled from the body because he was incompetent, while Hipose was habitually absent from meetings without valid reasons.Earlier, Kamatuka, Hipose and seven other OSCA members issued a statement in which they alleged that Kamatuka had used the association’s money without the consent of the committee. They also alleged that Kamatuka had not accounted for money raised through the hosting of the May Cup, which featured football and netball tournaments. He is said not to have accounted for N$6 000, some of which was supposed to be used as prize money for the netball teams.Hipose and Ratjama also charged that Kamatuka had ignored questions about the whereabouts of the money.Kamatuka showed financial statements to The Namibian Sport detailing how the money was spent at the tournament. He challenged Hipose and Ratjama to prove their allegations against him.”I challenge them to prove me wrong because every cent in those tournaments has been accounted for and I have proof thereof,” he said.Hipose and Ratjama also charged that Kamatuka had suspended three members from the association without the knowledge of the executive committee. The three members who got the boot are Ratjama, Gerson Hipose, the treasurer and Daniel Hipose, the first additional member.Kamatuka said he was not accountable to them and could not report to them on the association’s finances, as they had all been expelled from the body.Yesterday, Ratjama told The Namibian Sport that Kamatuka’s suspension was still in force and that a new president would be elected at a congress planned for December 17 at Omatjete.”We are going to elect new leaders in all the positions and Kamatuka should know that he is not part of the process and that his suspension is still in force,” he said.At the moment Tukumbavi Kahuure is acting in his position, but Kamatuka told The Namibian Sport that he was the legitimate leader because he was elected to that post.”The suspension they claim is just a joke. How can they suspend me?
