SINCE the appearance of a mysterious political animal called Ananias Nghifitikeko on the political landscape of this country, Namibians have been witnessing a concerted deliberate campaign of libel, blackmail and character assassination of Swapo members and leaders, particularly those from Ovakwanyama ethnic group.
This dirty campaign, which is tantamount to and has now developed into ripe and clear symptoms of ethnic political cleansing, has even intensified after the creation of a new political party, the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP). Due to the fact that some leaders of the RDP are of Kwanyama origin, the character assassins feel they have now been given carte blanche to label every Kwanyama in Swapo and in Government, whom they think should be targeted, as RDP members or sympathisers. The objective is clearly to rid Swapo and the Government of the Republic of Namibia of as many Kwanyamas as possible because they are considered to be not pliant enough. The libel, character assassination and blackmail has not escaped His Excellency President Hifikepunye Pohamba either, the man who is the President of Namibia and of Swapo. This is because he too is a Kwanyama. While the motives and objectives are clear to such jubilant character assassins, the end results and consequences will surely negatively affect the unity and cohesiveness of Swapo and may lead to a certain degree of not only weakening the party but also its possible disintegration. This will not augur well for either the Party or this country.I joined SWAPO in 1964 and remained a loyal and committed cadre throughout the crucible of the struggle to date.Currently, as a civil servant, I do not directly engage in active politics, as an ethics requirement of our public service, unless directed to do so, which is a rare practice. But my family and I are being disturbed by persistent wild rumours that we have joined or are sympathisers of RDP.It is rumoured that there are even people (mysterious again) who came to my house and asked my wife to give them our RDP membership cards.Apparently those people, who are supposed to be Swapo Party security agents, took those cards and photocopied them and then returned them to my wife. They claim to be in possession of such photocopies as proof. It is rumoured that I was seen or observed attending a meeting of RDP and was even responsible for taking minutes of that meeting. It is further rumoured that towards the end of 2007, I apparently sacked a domestic worker because she refused to join RDP.All these are mysteries, typical of the Ananias Nghifitikeko’s libellous and character assassination tactics and strategy. These are all wild and unfounded lies and fabrications. They are deliberately made with the purpose to create perceptions that my wife and I are RDP members. The prime objective is to rid Swapo, the Government and particularly, State House, of what is often referred to as “non (com)pliant and disloyal Kwanyama” elements.I wonder how, after more than 40 years of proven commitment to and selfless sacrifice for the cause of the liberation of this country, all of a sudden one is disloyal simply because of your ethnic origin. But as cadres of Swapo and of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia, we have always been either Kwambis, Ndongas, Kwanyamas, Kavangos, Damaras, Hereros, Namas or Caprivians of Namibia. We were all proud of what we are as Namibian members of a movement fighting for a common noble cause. Now the Nghifitikekos want the Namibian nation to believe that some ethnic groups are more Namibian, more loyal, more patriotic and therefore more important than others. If the peddlers of the above cited rumours are live human beings and not mysterious Ananias Nghifitikekos, I challenge them and anyone, be it within the Swapo or without, to prove beyond any doubt that my wife and I are members or sympathisers of RDP.I challenge them not to be shy but to come forward with such concrete evidence for the public and my Swapo comrades to know the truth. My wife and I are full members of Swapo and have not contemplated joining another party. However, the Nghifitikekos of this country and their like should know that, like other members of different ethnic groups in this country, I am a proud Namibian Kwanyama and I will remain so with my head high up.Ndali-Che Kamati Via
