THE Kalkrand Village Council’s chairperson, Adriaan Beukes, and his deputy Christine Garoës are being investigated for alleged misuse of council property. It is alleged that they used the council’s fire-fighting vehicle without council permission on a trip to Schlip village, reportedly to attend a Swapo Party gathering.
Kalkrand Police station commander, Collin Kazongominja, yesterday confirmed that a criminal charge of misuse of council property without the owner’s consent was laid against Beukes and Garoës by fellow councillor Rebecca van Staden. According to Kazongominja, council driver Dawid Willemse admitted that he took Beukes and Garoës to Schlip. When contacted for comment yesterday, Beukes switched off his cellphone after The Namibian’s reporter had introduced himself. Garoës also declined to comment.
