Judgement reserved in Gobabis house saga

JUDGEMENT was reserved on arguments concerning procedures in the case of a Gobabis woman who challenged the sale of her house to pay a bank debt of N$1 000.

The house, worth N$280 000, was sold to the deputy messenger of court at Gobabis, Gert Retief Bosman, for a meagre N$15 000.Aletta /Gôagoses, a former Police officer, claims the sale was facilitated by Bosman’s father, also Gert Retief Bosman, who is the messenger of court at the eastern town.On Friday, the Legal Assistance Centre, who represents /Gôagoses, approached the Gobabis Magistrate Court to cancel the sale of the house but arguments did not go into the merits of the case as the two sides argued over procedures and judgement was reserved. They must now await judgement, with the case returning to court in August./Gôagoses had an overdraft of N$1 000 at Standard Bank. She said the debt increased to around N$15 000 when lawyers’ fees and interest were added. While she was still arguing with the bank over the interest charges, the matter was placed in the hands of Windhoek-based lawyers Vaatz and Partners. They in turn made use of BN Venter from Gobabis to settle the matter. She claims that the house was sold without her knowledge, on December 8 last year.Venter denied selling the house without her knowledge.Although she has refused to move out of the house despite getting several instructions from Venter to do so, the messenger of court broke into it recently and removed her belongings.
