HELALIA Johannes won the Elite Women’s category of the Two Oceans Half Marathon in a new record time on Saturday.
Johannes won the 21,1km race in a time of one hour 10 minutes 30 seconds, which smashed her own previous record of 1:11:57 that she set eight years ago in 2011.
It was also her fifth victory at the premier marathon event after previous wins in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2011.
Johannes ran a superb race to finish nearly four minutes ahead of the second placed athlete, Betha Chikanga of Zimbabwe, who finished in a time of 1:14:29, while Fortunate Chidzivo of Zimbabwe came third in 1:15:39.
Johannes has been in great form of late and her latest triumph follows her success abroad last month when she won the Nagoya Women’s Marathon in Japan in a time of 2:22:55.
