A GROUP of employees at Jet Stores Wernhil Park claim that they have been working overtime for the past three months without compensation.
According to the workers, they have not received overtime payment since Veronica Muhepa joined the clothing outlet as the store operation manager. Muhepa started working at the branch in the capital some four months ago.The workers say they have tried to talk to the manager but she allegedly gets upset when the matter is raised. They allege that she wants to give them time off in exchange for the overtime worked – an arrangement which they do not prefer. When approached for comment, Muhepa denied the allegations. ‘No, I don’t know anything about that. The first day I started, there was a mistake, because I didn’t know anything. But now, it has been corrected.’According to her, the workers receive overtime payment if they exceed the 72-hour maximum per month. ‘The other hours are overtime and they get paid, so they are lying.’
