SEDI Jacobs is the only remaining Namibian player left in the singles competition of the ITF Southern African Junior tennis tournament currently taking place in Windhoek, after completion of the quarterfinal matches yesterday.
Playing in the quarterfinals of the Girls U/16 category, Jacobs put in a great performance to beat Nthabiseng Mogopodi of Botswana 6-1, 6-3. Jacobs was a bit inconsistent at times but on the whole her groundstrokes and serve were too powerful for her Botswana opponent, as she comfortably reached the semifinals.Jacobs will now play the second-seeded Janet Koch of South Africa in the semifinals this morning. Koch will start as the favourite against Jacobs, after she easily beat Reitumetse Metso of Lesotho 6-0, 6-0 in her quarterfinal match yesterday.Jacobs told Namibia Sport that she was looking forward to the match.’I have not played a competitive match against Janet before, but we have trained together. She is a good player but with a bit of luck I hope to do well,’ she said.The top-seeded Theresa van Zyl of South Africa easily beat Emelda Shadrack of Botswana 6-0, 6-0 and she will now meet Shann Wong Hon Chan of Mauritius, who beat Mpho Kotzie of Lesotho 6-0, 6-0.In the Boys U/16 competition, top-seeded Courtney Lock of Zimbabwe beat Julian Minfa of Mauritius 6-1, 6-2. In today’s semifinals, Lock will meet Lebelo Mosehle of Lesotho, who beat Phillip Franken of South Africa 6-3, 7-6.The second-seeded Lloyd Harris of South Africa beat Dylan Foo Kune of Mauritius 6-1, 6-2 and will now meet Alwyn Mushonga of Zimbabwe, who beat Thabiso Rabasotho of Lesotho 6-0, 6-1.In the Boys U/14 competition, Jandre Lessing of South Africa upset the top-seeded Tadiwa Chinamo of Zimbabwe with a 7-5, 6-3 victory. Lessing will now face Eduardo Morais of Angola, who beat Andritoavina Ratsimandresy of Madagascar 7-5, 6-3.The second-seeded Chisomo Lumeta of Malawi beat Kuketla Motlojoa of Lesotho 6-0, 6-3 and will now face Calvin Jordaan of South Africa, who beat Keith Mwashita of Zimbabwe 6-0, 6-4.In the Girls U/14 competition the top-seeded Nadine de Villiers of South Africa beat Claudia Sumaia of Mozambique 6-0, 6-1 and will now face Keren Muswere of Zimbabwe, who beat Amelia Boy of Mauritius 6-3, 6-4.The second-seeded Lee Barnard of South Africa beat Karen Machisa of Zimbabwe 6-0, 6-1 and will now face Randy Randrianasoloson of Madagascar, who beat Maely Chan of Mauritius 6-0, 6-2. – namibiasport.com.na
