JOHANNESBURG – An illegal strike at South Africa’s Exxaro Resources Rosh Pinah zinc/lead mine in Namibia has ended, the firm said on Friday.
The strike began on the night of July 29 at the underground mine, after disciplinary actions against Petrus Amakali, the chairperson of the union and an employee at the mine, resulted in his dismissal. Exxaro said the strike had brought all production at the mine – which produces 115 000 tonnes per year of zinc concentrate and 28 000 tonnes a year of lead concentrate – to a standstill.”The mine is currently taking steps to optimally manage production going forward in order to reach targets, minimise the impact on customers and limit disruption of product supply,” the mining group said.Nampa-ReutersExxaro said the strike had brought all production at the mine – which produces 115 000 tonnes per year of zinc concentrate and 28 000 tonnes a year of lead concentrate – to a standstill.”The mine is currently taking steps to optimally manage production going forward in order to reach targets, minimise the impact on customers and limit disruption of product supply,” the mining group said.Nampa-Reuters
