ICC Trophy wide open: Moody

AHMEDABAD – Sri Lankan cricket coach Tom Moody yesterday said the Champions Trophy tournament was wide open even after a few surprise results in early group matches.

“We have seen too many teams circled favourites lose in a race for the semi-finals, but to me the contest is still wide open,” Moody said on the eve of his team’s Group-B league match against South Africa. “I am concentrating on our passage to the semi-finals and that is our big game tomorrow. We’ll looking to play our best brand tomorrow.”Sri Lanka, South Africa and world champions Australia have suffered surprise defeats, but all of them remain in contention after six group games.Australia have one win after two matches, while the West Indies and India have one victory after one game in Group A.Sri Lanka and New Zealand have posted one victory in two games and Pakistan one in one in Group B.”Most teams have adjusted their strategies and balance to accommodate the change in conditions that we are finding in this tournament,” said Moody, a former Australian one-day specialist.”The only question mark everyone has got at the moment is the fact the bearing the dew has on the results. We have yet to know the real significance of the advantage of batting first or second.”Nampa-AFP”I am concentrating on our passage to the semi-finals and that is our big game tomorrow. We have yet to know the real significance of the advantage of batting first or second.”Nampa-AFP
