NAMIBIA Football Association (NFA) secretary general Alpheus Gaweseb yesterday said he would not be drawn into discussions regarding the appointment of the technical director for Namibian football.
Gaweseb responded to a question at the launch of the Tafel Lager NFA Cup. He angrily replied that he would not entertain such questions at a platform where the focus was on the launch of a cup competition.”I am not going to be pulled into a situation where I have to respond to such a question at this platform. We have made ourselves clear in a press release that we will make the announcement at an appropriate time.I am not going to allow such questions here,” he said.He said the occasion was for the launch of the competition and the issue of the technical director was not relevant. The position of the technical director has been vacant for almost two years now and the NFA has failed to appoint the person to date. The two candidates, Ronnie Kanalelo and Seth Boois, recently confirmed that they have not been contacted since they were short-listed for the job.The technical director will be responsible for the overall development of football at the grassroots level, while he will also co-ordinate development on national level. In a statement last week, the NFA said they were still finalising the “personal terms” of the person who would take the job.The NFA has on more than four occasions failed to appoint the technical director, despite promises that it would be done.* At the same occasion, Gaweseb also confirmed that Black Africa did not pay their fine of N$5 000 for using Ole Khiba in their NFA Cup semi-final match against Golden Bees.Black Africa needs to pay the fine before June 17 in order to play in the final of the competition against Ramblers, according to the conditions set by the NFA.Gaweseb said they had not received the money, but hoped to get it in time before the final. The NFA has not given BA a specific date to pay the fine.Gaweseb could not say what would happen in case BA did not pay the fine before the final.BA chairman Kandas Paulino, who was also at the launch, jokingly said: “We will pay on June 17″.BA used Khiba against Golden Bees after he had already turned out for Civics in the same competition this year.He angrily replied that he would not entertain such questions at a platform where the focus was on the launch of a cup competition.”I am not going to be pulled into a situation where I have to respond to such a question at this platform. The NFA has not given BA a specific date to pay the fine.Gaweseb could not say what would happen in case BA did not pay the fine before the final.BA chairman Kandas Paulino, who was also at the launch, jokingly said: “We will pay on June 17”.BA used Khiba against Golden Bees after he had already turned out for Civics in the same competition this year.
