THE Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) on Thursday officially launched the 2015/2016 National Household Income and Expenditure Survey at Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region.
The NSA’s acting Statistician-General, Liina Kafidi who officiated at the event said the actual enumeration will take place from 27 April 2015 until March 2016.
The survey is aimed at collecting and profiling data on socio-economic household indicators such as incomes, expenditure, labour force, health and education.
“The information we intend to collect must be accurate because it is important for national planning purposes. The information is most needed by regional and local government planners, as well as socio-economical researchers,” Kafidi said.
The acting NSA Statistician-General urged the general public to actively participate in the survey and co-operate with enumerators.
She said NSA enumerators will be identifiable by their T-shirts, caps and identity cards during the survey.
Some enumerators who were present at the launch took an oath of secrecy.
Kafidi explained that Oath of Secrecy means enumerators must not divulge details of the respondents to any third person, as that information is confidential.
In her presentation at the event, the national coordinator of the survey, Ottilie Mwazi said the exercise will be a sample-based survey, whereby only a selected few households will be visited by enumerators for a period of seven days.
She said a sample size of 10 368 households are being targeted during the survey.
The one-year national survey will cost the NSA more than N.dollars 130 million.
The office of the Otjozondjupa Regional Governor, Otto Ipinge, was represented by the special advisor to the Governor, Rosalia Muashekele-Sibiya during the launch.
Otjiwarongo mayor Hilde Jesaja was also present at the launch.
