A MAN was killed and another seriously injured on Saturday evening when their cars collided on the main road between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay at the turn-off to Langstrand.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was driving a VW Jetta from the direction of Swakop-mund, and was allegedly in the wrong lane. Another motorist allegedly swerved out of the way before making a U-turn in an attempt to make the driver aware of his error. It was too late.The Jetta slammed into a VW minibus that was travelling from Walvis Bay. The Chief Crime Investigation Co-ordinator for the Erongo Police, Chief Inspector Charles Sibolile, told The Namibian that only two people were involved in the accident.The driver of the kombi was seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Swakopmund. Sibolile said the Police are still trying to trace the next of kin of the man who died, and his name cannot be released yet.The man was already dead when his body was dragged from the burning wreck through the rear window.Witnesses said the road was blocked by the accident and there was a one-kilometre queue of cars on either side while emergency staff were working there.
