THOUSANDS of visitors will spend the summer holiday season at the coast again, but they all need to remember that there are rules that need to be adhered to, especially in new Dorob National Park.
‘This is to ensure a trouble-free and safe holiday season,’ said Rod Braby, coordinator of the Namibian Coast Conservation and management Project (Nacoma) at the launch of the holiday law enforcement campaign in Swakopmund.The campaign will not just focus on the coastal environment, but also on road safety.Officers of the various law enforcement agencies will be on duty in the Dorob National Park as well as on the most important national routes for the whole of the Christmas holiday season.’The 2012 December holiday at the coast could be the best yet – if visitors treat the coastal environment with utmost respect and refrain from destroying its sensitive biodiversity,’ said Braby.The Dorob Park between the Kuiseb delta, south of Walvis Bay, and the Ugab River to the north is considered one of the most unique parks in the world because alongside conservation measures and ‘red exclusionary zones’, it provides enough space to enjoy leisure, tourism and adventure sports activities.Park rules and regulation pamphlets (with maps) can be obtained from the offices of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism at Walvis Bay and Swakopmund; the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources’ permit offices; the Henties Bay tourism office and other tourism information areas.’Holidaymakers are encouraged to enjoy themselves but within the applicable laws, rules and regulations. These apply to all cases, whether travelling on proclaimed roads, relaxing on the beach, or angling,’ Braby emphasised.
