WINDHOEK’S Hochland Road was renamed in honour of the late David Hosea Meroro on Friday.
Meroro, a founding Swapo member and former Member of Parliament, is remembered for his role in mobilising the Old Location community in the late 1950s and organising boycotts of municipal services in protest at the apartheid local authority’s forced relocation of the community to Katutura.Meroro was also a member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the Namibian Constitution.’By renaming this street in honour of one of our heroes, we are therefore recommitting ourselves to make a reality of the vision that lit the dawn of freedom. We are the relay team to whom he has handed the torch that he carried for so long,’ Windhoek Mayor Matheus Shikongo said at the ceremony.
