PAULUS ‘The Hitman’ Moses has declared himself ready and raring to go for next Tuesday’s fight when he will defend his WBA Intercontinental lightweight title against Beka Sadjaia of Georgia.
The title fight will be the main bout of the “WBA Double Header and Independence Celebration Boxing Bonanza” at the Windhoek Country Club and will be promoted by the Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy. “I am ready for the fight. On the 20th of March you will see a war at the Windhoek Country Club where I will defend my title, and I am sure I will retain it,” The Hitman said yesterday.Sadjaia, his manager and coach arrived in Windhoek yesterday to give them enough time to acclimatize for the fight. They arrived at the press conference, directly from the Hosea Kutako International Airport.Sadjaia, who is the Georgian lightweight champion, will enter the ring as the underdog.Sadjaia only turned 20, on February 20, and is not as experienced as the Hitman.Sadjaia has a professional record of 12 wins and one loss from 13 fights, while The Hitman is unbeaten after 19 professional fights.Besides that, The Hitman will have a distinct height and reach advantage, as he is considerably taller than his Georgian opponent. The Hitman’s coach and promoter Nestor Tobias, however said that they would not underestimate Sadjaia.”He’s not a boy anymore, he’s a man, because he’ll be in the lion’s den on Tuesday night. The Hitman is ready.Sadjaia is a good fighter and we will not take him lightly,” he said.Sadjaia’s manager, David Gugunava thanked the Namibian Boxing Board for the invitation and said they were ready for the fight.”We hope to win this fight. We are ready and will do our best,” he said.Gugunava said this would be Sadjaia’s first international fight as his other fights all took place in Georgia. The main supporting bout will be another title fight, for the vacant WBA Pan African Junior Welterweight title between Namibia’s Jason Taks Naule and Lawrence Ngobeni of South Africa.Naule is still unbeaten after 10 professional fights, while Ngobeni has a record of 37 wins and 10 defeats from 47 professional fights.More sponsors needed Telecom Namibia and Nampower will be the main sponsors of the boxing bonanza, but Tobias said that they still needed more sponsors to help stage the event.”As we speak, we still need more financial support. These guys flew all the way from Georgia and they will be staying here for a week, so that’s a lot of traveling and accommodation money that we have to cover. We are lucky to have companies like Telecom Namibia and Nampower supporting us, but for a big international tournament like this we need more sponsors,” he said. The Deputy Minister of Sport, Pohamba Shifeta said sport played an important role in bringing people and nations together.”Sport is mostly about entertainment and we want to be entertained, but the private sector must reciprocate by investing in boxing,” he said.Tobias said the first fight will start at 18h30, while tickets can be obtained at N$100 per person at the Windhoek Country Club or at the offices of the Namibian Professional Boxing Board.www.namibiasport.com.na”I am ready
