AN injured 66-year-old Swedish hiker was yesterday rescued from the Fish River Canyon at Ai-Ais.
The tourist fell and broke her arm while hiking. Police Chief Inspector Lydia Shapwanale said the hiker was given first-aid treatment after being airlifted with a Police helicopter to safety. The hiker and her husband returned home yesterday, according to Shapwanale. Two weeks ago three South African hikers that went missing while hiking in the Fish River Canyon were also airlifted with a Police helicopter to safety.The hikers went missing after they took a shortcut back when one of them was injured. Other news from the South is that the Police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old suspect for allegedly setting alight a corrugated iron shack at Warmbad’s informal settlement.Charged with arson, Leon Klein made a brief appearance in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
