OSHAKATI – Health is no longer the business of the Health Ministry alone, but requires joint efforts from everyone, as diseases do not respect social class, borders, gender, age, geographical or political ideologies.

This was said by Health Minister Dr Richard Kamwi on Monday, when he officially inaugurated the Communicable Diseases Clinic (CDC) and a state-of-the art Resource Centre at Oshakati in the Oshana Region. The two health facilities are among several projects to be carried out at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital under a public-private partnership (PPP) initiated by the Ministry of Health and Social Services.Carports with shades in the hospital’s parking areas, and the installation of a computerised, integrated pharmaceutical management system are some of the health infrastructure to be carried out or improved under the PPP.Kamwi said Standard Bank Namibia and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supported the PPP initiative – financially, technically and morally – to the tune of more than N$1,5 million.’The Government of Namibia calls upon other stakeholders to follow this example, because health is no longer the business of my ministry alone,’ the Minister urged.’If we are to achieve the millennium development goals, we have to involve all stakeholders,’ Kamwi said. – Nampa
