Harry’s goal under threat

SUPER slim and rather acrobatic SKW goalkeeper Harry Januarie will avoid the mistake of moving a lot from his goal line when his side meet Black Africa in a premiership clash at the Khomasdal Stadium tonight. Kick-off is at 20h00.

Despite having a great ability of anticipation in the game, Januarie, who has lost weight considerably since he moved to SKW from Orlando Pirates this season, learnt the hard way after he exposed his goal to the African Stars strikers who slotted the ball over him to give them a 2-1 win in the end last week.
The lanky goalkeeper left his goal unguarded momentarily and paid the price that most shot-stoppers try to avoid in any given match.
Januarie, who seems unrecognisable from a distance, is currently the toast of SKW as he has kept the side out of danger numerous times with his brilliant acrobatic manoeuvres, quick reflexes, while a dose of experience has helped him achieve that.
He has conceded only four goals from seven matches this season, and his team are currently at the top of the log, tied on 15 points each with Orlando Pirates, while their strikers have been on target 11 times.
Eleven Arrows has hit the net more that any other team in the league with 15 goals to date.
January was benched ahead of the agile Helmuth Maletsky at Pirates, but is now the first choice at SKW after coach Richard Starke and Lucky Kakuva put him through rigorous drills to shed weight.
He has successfully done that and tonight, his goalkeeping skills will be put to test by Black Africa marksmen under floodlights.

GOING FOR GOALS

BA’s Jerome Louis, Brian Bantam, Lolo Goraseb, Angula da Costa and Eliphas Heita will all try their luck to beat Januarie tonight, but it will not be easy as he has been around long enough to know their tricks by now.
On the other end, Black Africa’s goalie Abongile Grootboom will also try to keep a clean slate to impress new BA coach Tollie van Wyk, who goes into his second match with the side.
Van Wyk took over earlier this month and has so far maintained a 100 per cent winning record, but will that still be standing tomorrow?
BA face an unpredictable SKW side which have somehow turned the heat on due to their fine organisational capabilities on the field, decisive passes and the composure of their strikers in front of goal.
Tonight’s match will see if the Olympia-based side will go for their second defeat after losing to Stars last Wednesday.
The player who is expected to turn the screws for the home side tonight will be Goraseb in midfield, while Angula and Gadafie Gariseb can equally deliver if picked on the day.
For SKW, the ever-reliable Marco van Wyk will be the man to watch, while former Pirates midfielder Chepela Chepela, Arend von Stryk and Zimbabwean national Tatenda Chingara, if picked for the day, can also impress. – corry@namibian.com.na
