Griquas confident of going all the way

GRIQUAS coach Dawie Theron believes his team is good enough to go all the way in the Currie Cup and will not be satisfied with only a semifinal finish after his troops defeated the Lions 36-31 on Saturday.

The victory for the hosts in Kimberley ensured that they ended the weekend in third position on the competition standings. They are now only two points behind the Sharks, who are the current log-leaders on 40 points.’This was definitely our most important victory of the Currie Cup season,’ said Theron.’We have tough matches against Western Province and Blue Bulls, both away, before we play the Sharks at home, so this result will definitely give the guys plenty of confidence going into the last three weeks of competition. In Durban, The Sharks continued their dominance at the top of the Currie Cup log on Saturday with a 24-13 victory over the Free State Cheetahs at the Stadium. The Blue Bulls stayed in the Currie Cup play-off race on Saturday thanks to an emphatic 72-16 victory over the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington.Western Province strengthened their second position on the Currie Cup log on Friday night with a 37-3 win over the Leopards in Potchefstroom. The Cape side scored five tries through a brace by captain Luke Watson with fullback Joe Pietersen, centre Juan de Jongh and winger Gio Aplon also adding their names to the try-scoring sheet.
