Grade 10 failures prefer going back to school

THE Namibia College of Open Learning (Namcol) says there was a low turnout of Grade 10 repeaters at countrywide registrations last week.

Namcol Director Harold Murangi attributed the low turnout to the fact that many repeaters had already registered at the beginning of the year. Classes for newly registered students start this week.Murangi said students repeating the grade through Namcol only had to repeat the subjects they had failed last year. Those who repeat the grade in the formal school system have to redo all nine subjects.Tuition for repeaters has been extended to five hours a day compared to the previous two hours, thanks to money made available by the Ministry of Education.”It is now up to the commitment of the students and parents to take the opportunity and ensure a high Grade 10 pass rate this year,” said Murangi.Classes for newly registered students start this week.Murangi said students repeating the grade through Namcol only had to repeat the subjects they had failed last year. Those who repeat the grade in the formal school system have to redo all nine subjects.Tuition for repeaters has been extended to five hours a day compared to the previous two hours, thanks to money made available by the Ministry of Education. “It is now up to the commitment of the students and parents to take the opportunity and ensure a high Grade 10 pass rate this year,” said Murangi.
