POLICE in the Ohangwena Region are investigating a case of murder after a security guard was hit with a stone on the forehead and died on the spot at Okongo on Saturday evening.
According to Ohangwena Police Liaison Officer Sergeant Abner Iitumba, the deceased has been identified as Nangenda Fillipus Tshoombe (32) from Okongo village.The suspect, Kennedy Iiyambo, a Grade 12 pupil at Oshela Senior Secondary School at Okongo, appeared in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with murder. He was not asked to plead and his case has been postponed to September 14 2009 for further Police investigation. Iiyambo was not granted bail and remains in Police custody.According to reports, Tshoombe and Iiyambo were playing pool at an Okongo bar on Saturday when they started quarrelling over the game. The two men got into a fight, which was broken up by friends of both. Both left the bar and apparently went home. Tshoombe, who was a security guard at Gift Shopping Centre at Okongo, later went to work, where he was later confronted by Iiyambo. The two men started fighting again and in the process, Iiyambo picked up a stone and struck Tshoombe the fatal blow to the head. Tshoombe died on the spot. In other northern crime news, Police in the Oshana Region are looking for two to three armed robbers who held up a Chinese shop at Ongwediva in the early hours of Sunday. According to Oshana Police, the armed robbers tied up the shop workers and made off with a large amount of cash. Police recovered the car in which the robbers fled the scene on Monday morning at Okatana village. oswald@namibian.com.na
