Govt appeals for help

THE floods that wreaked havoc in the capital and pounded an enclosed housing complex was a test for the spirit of Windhoek residents, Information Minister Nangolo Mbumba said yesterday.

Mbumba, on a tour of flood-hit Acacia, in Dorado Park, said: “Each nation, each country, each city will always face a challenge. Don’t ever think think you will live a comfortable life forever.We should face this challenge as a country and help each other – with water, food, blankets”.The Minister of Information and Broadcasting said Government would work with communities to tackle “this emergency” and launched an urgent call to private firms and individuals to help.Regional Councillor for Windhoek West (Swapo), Sophia Shaningwa, said the thunderstorms of the last few days were God’s answer to prayers for rain.”We have been praying for rain, but today God has spoken and we just have to stand and listen,” said Shaningwa.She appealed for assistance of any kind for those who have been affected.Don’t ever think think you will live a comfortable life forever.
