Governor’s trial delayed

THE trial of Hardap Governor Katrina Hanse-Himarwa was supposed to start this week, but on Monday it was delayed because magistrates across the country were attending a workshop in Swakopmund.

She faces charges related to N$2 000 she allegedly appropriated from the Regional Council under false pretences to throw a Christmas party for elders at Aranos in December 2005, allegedly illegally soliciting N$3 290 for the sewing of curtains for her official residence, and the alleged inflation and wrongful allocation of a curtain supply tender to a relative, Lydia Goeieman.A new trial date of September 28 to 30 was arranged with Hanse-Himarwa’s lawyer, State Prosecutor Anita Meyer told The Namibian. Hanse-Himarwa remains free on bail of N$2 000.luqman@namibian.com.na
