Government recognises /Hai-/Khaua leader

GOVERNMENT has recognised the chieftainship of /Hai-/Khaua leader Johannes Isaak.

Isaak will be inaugurated as chief of the /Hai-/Khaua tribe at Berseba tomorrow during a ceremony expected to be officiated by Local Government Minister Jerry Ekandjo. Isaak and his deputy Stephanus Isaak, former Karas governor, were elected at a /Hai-/Khaua unity movement convention held at Berseba late last year. The move was aimed at ending an impasse over the leadership that had divided the /Hai-/Khaua tribe, a sub-tribe of the Nama people, into rival Isaak and Goliath factions for almost 50 years, However, a splinter Goliath faction led by Thomas Karools and supported by Berseba constituency councillor Dawid Boois rejected the leadership as illegitimate.
