Good rains in the North

GOOD showers have fallen in northern Namibia since Friday, easing fears of drought and crop failure.

Weatherman Odillo Kgobetsi told The Namibian yesterday that the north-central parts will be the main recipients of rain from today to Thursday.
“There will be widespread showers there and at some places, very heavy. There is stability there,” said Kgobetsi. He said isolated showers are also expected in the central areas towards the weekend.
But during the weekend itself, the north-west will be dry.
“It has rained well here and the rain is continuing. Oshanas are full and people are catching frogs,” said the regional councillor for Oshakati East constituency in Oshana Region, Loth Kuushomwa.
He said the good rains have brought joy to communal mahangu farmers.
“We will definitely have a good harvest this year,” said Kuushoma, adding that the drought-resistant okashana mahangu crop is already maturing.
Kuushomwa said good rains have been reported in all four north-central regions: Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena and Oshikoto. – absalom@namibian.com.na
