A BUSINESS delegation from Finland is visiting Namibia next week to strengthen co-operation between Finland and Namibia. The delegation represents the Federation of Finnish Enterprises, with a membership of more than 106 000 enterprises.
Their visit will focus on key sectors like mining, fishing, tourism and meat export.
A direct export route from Namibia to the Scandinavian countries is being looked at, especially for the export of beef, lamb and game. Namibia has five EU-accredited abattoirs.
A Finnish week is being held at the Gathemann’s Restaurant to coincide with the delegation’s visit. Traditional Finnish dishes will be served – including fresh salmon imported from Finland – accompanied by Finnish music.
Typical Finnish cuisine consists of fresh fish, mushrooms and berries.
Urs Gamma, the owner of the restaurant, visited Finland last year to represent Namibia at an international culinary and cultural exchange. He took with him some Namibian truffles to prepare there.
There he also met Gero Hottinger of the Helsinki Culinary Institute and invited him to Namibia. Hottinger will teach the chefs at Gathemann’s Restaurant Finnish cuisine while learning typical Namibian dishes. Such an exchange of different cuisines is very important and should be fostered,’ said Hottinger.
