Global warming is real, says Henschel

CLIMATE change is real and people have to learn how to live with it, says the Executive Director of the Namib Desert-based Gobabeb Training and Research Centre (GTRC).

In a brief interview at Wolwedans, in the private NamibRand Nature Reserve, Dr Joh Herschel told The Namibian on Saturday that it has been scientifically proven that the world is warming up at an increased rate. More extreme weather, frequent droughts, large veld fires and a rise in sea level are some of the problems facing humankind because of climate change.Re-designing crop mixes to ensure a guaranteed minimum yield under even the worst conditions to reduce losses, could help people to adapt to climate change. He also suggested a move to more sustainable practices, for example, to using solar energy for cooking purposes if fuel wood supplies were to decline.More extreme weather, frequent droughts, large veld fires and a rise in sea level are some of the problems facing humankind because of climate change.Re-designing crop mixes to ensure a guaranteed minimum yield under even the worst conditions to reduce losses, could help people to adapt to climate change. He also suggested a move to more sustainable practices, for example, to using solar energy for cooking purposes if fuel wood supplies were to decline.
