Give Graduates A Chance

NAMIBIAN graduates are growing increasingly frustrated over the lack of job opportunities available to them.

While there is no denying the value of a tertiary qualification, most of them are beginning to ask themselves if it was actually worth it. The struggle begins at university or college where students are denied internships. How then are they supposed to conjure up the experience required in most job applications?Years of study without any practice whatsoever seem to be the fate of many young graduates. The very same employers who deny students internships are the ones who end up turning them down saying ‘sorry you do not have enough experience’.Graduates are beginning to second-guess themselves; thinking that had they chosen another field they would probably have a job.All deserve a chance to prove themselves and graduates are no exception. Yes they are young but every organisation needs a few young heads and with young people come fresh ideas that can help improve any organisation.Give graduates the opportunity to put into practice what they have studied, their knowledge and skills are invaluable and their enthusiasm and willingness to work comes second to none.Aurelia David, Unam
