THE Cell One NFA Cup will culminate in what is expected to be an explosive affair on the field of play when Eleven Arrows lock horns with Orlando Pirates, while off the field, entertainment is set to be equally exhilarating.
Coastal outfit Arrows and Katutura giants Pirates will square up in the country’s most lucrative cup competition when they vie for the hefty N$500 000 at stake, while two prominent Namibian musicians will provide sizzling entertainment.Kwaito superstar Gazza will take to the stage with the aim to set it on fire with his scintillating beats, while Ma /Gaisa Godfather Michael !Owos-oab, will serenade the crowd with his velvet voice on the day.Yesterday, Cell One’s chief regulatory and corporate affairs officer, Stanley Similo, said the competition is the biggest and richest on the local football front.’We acknowledge the aspirations of local teams striving to turn professional in the foreseeable future and we therefore put forward a competition that is financially attractive for all the participating teams,’ he said.The semi-finalists, SKW and Ramblers, will also be rewarded with N$100 000 each, while the second best team in the final walks away with N$200 000.Similo said they want the players, teams, and the fans to end the current football season on a high note and start preparing for a better and bigger season for 2010.’We are working to ensure that everyone has a great time at the final match by bringing crowd favourites and Namibia’s biggest musicians Gazza and Michael !Owos-oab.’He said the gates will open at 12h00 and ‘old crock’ teams from Pirates and Arrows will play a curtain raiser at 13h00 before the main final starts at 15h00.He also announced that on Friday between 13h00 and 14h00, football fans will get an opportunity to meet some of the stars from the two teams at the Cell One shop in Wernhil Park.’The fans will get a chance to receive a signed a photo of their favourite team and also several free tickets to the match. There will be entertainment throughout the day provided by well-known MC Webster,’ he said.Similo also announced that fans around the country who cannot make it to the stadium need not to worry, as the match will be screened live by the NBC, and it will also be broadcast live on various radio services.The prize money for the competition next season will be higher, but Similo believes that the inaugural final should go down in the history books as the most memorable one. corry@namibian.com.na
