FRIENDS and Golden Bees face relegation to the first division when the MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) comes to an end after the weekend’s matches.
Friends are on 20 points after their one-all draw against Tigers on Wednesday night, while Golden Bees are on 19 points from their 21 matches. Friends take on African Stars tomorrow at the Rehoboth Stadium, before they meet champions Civics on Sunday at the Ramblers Stadium. If Friends win both matches, they will be on 26 points, two points ahead of Blue Waters, provided the coastal side lose their derby against Eleven Arrows at the Kuisebmond Stadium on Sunday.Golden Bees only have one remaining match and will fight hard to bow out on a winning note when they face Oshakati City at the Independence Stadium in that town.A win will also not see them surviving the chop.Civics drew one-all against Ramblers on Wednesday night and it will go all out to win their last match against Friends at the Ramblers Stadium on Sunday. The three-time champions have only lost two matches in their league campaign and were already crowned the 2007 champions last weekend.Oshakati City and Ramblers, who are tied on 37 points from their 21 matches, will have to fight it out for the second spot.Ramblers meet Tigers at the Independence Stadium on Sunday, a match that can go either way, despite Tigers being blasted 4-0 by Civics last weekend and pulling a draw against Friends in midweek.Orlando Pirates and Black Africa will go head to head in another derby on Sunday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.Black Africa are in sixth position on the log with 27 points, while Pirates are in eighth position with 26 points. The match will once again revive the fierce rivalry between the two domestic premiership powerhouses, who did not have a good run in the league this season.Pirates can still look forward to their final against African Stars in the MTC NFA Cup on May 19 in Windhoek. In another match, SKW take on African Stars on Sunday at the SKW Stadium. All matches on both days will start at 15h00.Friends take on African Stars tomorrow at the Rehoboth Stadium, before they meet champions Civics on Sunday at the Ramblers Stadium. All matches on both days will start at 15h00.
